Heavy Duty Office Chairs for 150kg and Over: What to Buy

Heavy Duty Office Chairs for 150kg and Over: What to Buy

Last updated: October 2026

If you weigh 150kg or more, choose an office chair with a stated weight rating of at least 160kg, ideally backed by independent load testing and a long commercial warranty. At EasyMart Australia, four chairs meet that bar: the Rapidline Milan, Rapidline Endeavour Pro, Rapidline Merida and OLG Flow, all rated to 160kg with 10 year warranties, listed from $409. This guide goes deeper than our main guide to the best ergonomic office chairs for lower back pain and better posture, focusing on load ratings, seat size and construction.

Quick answer

  • Weight rating: look for a written rating of 160kg. Do not rely on the words "heavy duty" in a product name.
  • Testing: the Endeavour Pro and Merida are listed as AFRDI load rated to 160kg; the Milan lists a 160kg capacity with AFRDI Level 6 and BIFMA testing.
  • Warranty: all four 160kg chairs in our range carry a 10 year warranty.
  • Seat: check seat width (510mm on the Rapidline models) and depth against your hips and thighs.
  • Price: $409 to $525 for 160kg rated chairs at EasyMart.
  • Avoid: budget chairs rated to 120kg, and 135kg or 140kg chairs if you are 150kg or over.

Which office chairs are rated to 160kg at EasyMart?

These are the chairs in our range with a stated 160kg rating. Specifications come from the product pages; prices are listed prices in October 2026 and vary by options such as arms or colour.

How do the four 160kg chairs differ?

Rapidline Milan: mesh back at the lowest price

The Milan has a breathable mesh back, a 4 switch mechanism with seat slide, adjustable arms and lumbar support, on a five star base with castors. At $409 it is the entry point for a 160kg rated chair in our range, and a good fit if you run warm in summer.

Rapidline Endeavour Pro: high back with triple strip lumbar

The Endeavour Pro uses a 4 lever mechanism with seat slide, a ratchet back for setting lumbar height and a triple strip lumbar support. Its 550mm back height suits people who want more upper back support than a medium back chair gives.

Rapidline Merida: deepest seat and highest seat range

The Merida has the deepest seat of the four at 510mm and the highest seat height range at 515 to 585mm, so it suits taller heavier users. It sits on a heavy duty five star spider base with 50mm hard floor castors.

OLG Flow: synchro tilt and 60mm castors

The Flow has a mesh wrapped back, moulded foam seat, synchro tilt, seat slide and fixed lumbar support, on a nylon five star base with large 60mm heavy duty castors. Adjustable padded arms are an upgrade, which is why the price varies.

What should I check on seat width and base construction?

A weight rating tells you what the chair has been designed to carry. Comfort depends on whether it fits you.

  • Seat width: you should be able to sit without the side of the seat or the arm supports pressing on your hips. All three Rapidline models list a 510mm seat width. Measure across your hips while seated on a flat surface and compare.
  • Seat depth: a seat slide lets you set two to three fingers of space behind your knees. All four chairs in the table have a seat slide.
  • Arm spacing: adjustable arms that move up and down help, but also check the gap between them. Arms that are optional or removable give you more room.
  • Base and castors: look for a five star base and larger castors. The Flow uses 60mm castors; the Merida uses a heavy duty spider base. On carpet, a Rapidline chair mat makes rolling easier and protects the floor.
  • Gas lift and mechanism: these take the load every time you sit. Independent load testing and a 10 year warranty are the best signals available to a buyer that these parts are built for it.

What does AFRDI load rated mean?

AFRDI is the Australasian Furnishing Research and Development Institute, now trading as FurnTech, which runs an independent testing and certification system for commercial and domestic furniture (furntech.org.au). A chair listed as AFRDI load rated to 160kg has been rated by that system for that load.

Why are 120kg budget chairs not suitable?

Many budget mesh and gaming style chairs, including several Artiss models in our computer chairs collection, list a 120kg capacity. Using any chair above its rating puts extra strain on the gas lift, mechanism and base, and is likely to shorten its life. The same applies to mid range chairs: the OLG Tilly and Optic task chairs are rated to 140kg and the Rapidline Lotto to 135kg. They are good chairs, but not the right choice if you weigh 150kg or more.

Some product names include "heavy duty" or "heavy commercial use" without listing a weight rating, such as the Rapidline Heavy Duty Mesh Chair. If you need a rated chair, choose one of the models above with a stated load rating.

How long will a heavy duty office chair last?

It depends on daily hours, the user and care. The clearest guide is the warranty: all four 160kg chairs here carry 10 years. Read more in how long an office chair should last.

Can I pick up a heavy duty chair or have it delivered?

EasyMart Australia delivers Australia wide, and Afterpay is available at checkout. Click and Collect is available on Rapidline, OLP and Statewide products, so the Milan, Endeavour Pro and Merida can be collected; the OLG Flow is delivery only.
